Nearby Apex Mountain boasts great family skiing, outdoor rink, snowshoeing, and winter-tubing. Team sports such as soccer, curling, rugby, and hockey, are also well represented and enjoyed. Penticton is also home to the Penticton Vees Junior A Hockey Club.

Penticton hosts numerous events every year, and among them are the Penticton Peach Festival, the Okanagan Wine Festival, the Meadowlark Nature Festival, the Superleague Penticton Triathlon, and the Miss Penticton Pageant. The Pageant takes place during the Penticton Peach Festival, the Pentastic Hot Jazz Festival, and the Peach City Beach Cruise.

The Penticton Art Gallery and the Penticton Community Market also serve as tour centers for visitors all around. The Penticton Community Center offers recreational and fitness services such as a gymnasium, fitness programs, dance studio, and Cleland center (ice-skating). The city is mostly accessible by bicycle or on foot. A number of bus routes are also available to travel throughout the city.
